The Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate met today, January 10, 2025, with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew presiding. The Synod discussed all agenda items and made necessary decisions.
At today’s session, following a proposal by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and a formal request from Metropolitan Joseph of Buenos Aires, the Holy and Sacred Synod conducted canonical elections in the Patriarchal Church. Two auxiliary bishops were elected unanimously to attend to the pastoral needs of the faithful in Brazil.
The newly elected bishops are:
- Archimandrite Irenaeus Tamaninis, assigned to the historic Diocese of Tropaeum.
- Archimandrite Agathangelos Karkangelis, assigned to the historic Diocese of Zela.
