In this week’s Torah reading, God reveals Himself to Abraham with the name “Shadai” (Shin, Daled, Yud). When God reveals Himself to Moses, it is with the Tetragrammaton, the Four-Letter Name of God (Yud, Heh, Vav, Heh).
Rabbi Ovadia Sforno explains that “Shadai” signifies God’s self-sufficiency and ability to create the universe, while the Tetragrammaton represents a higher level of divine involvement through miracles and prophecy.
From the Exodus onward, the relationship between God and Israel is characterized by supernatural events and divine intervention. This connection demonstrates God’s active involvement in the lives of His people.
May we always be aware of and grateful for the miracles in our lives. Shabbat Shalom.
