Pope and Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and all Africa was honored as an honorary citizen of the Municipality of Rethymno this afternoon.
The declaration ceremony was held in the Municipal Council chamber of the municipality, under the auspices of Mayor Giorgis Marinakis.
The Patriarch was joined by representatives from Patriarchates and Churches, as well as political and academic authorities from the island and the country, mayors from Rethymno and Crete, and members of various political parties. The Mayor explained the reasons for bestowing this honor, emphasizing the Patriarch’s exceptional pastoral, missionary, and innovative work during his 20-year tenure on the Patriarchal Throne of Alexandria.
