The Holy and Sacred Synod met on Sunday afternoon, under the leadership of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. The session commenced with Patriarch Bartholomew sharing updates on current matters related to the life and mission of the Mother Church.
During the meeting, a letter from Archbishop Leo of Helsinki and All Finland was presented, outlining the developments following his resignation. As per the letter, the Clergy-Laity Assembly of the Autonomous Church of Finland gathered at Valamo Monastery, where two candidates were nominated for his succession.
The triprosopon was established, and Metropolitan Ilias of Oulu was unanimously elected as the new Archbishop of Helsinki and All Finland by the Holy Synod.
Subsequent to the election, the newly appointed Archbishop was officially announced through the Mikro Minima and Mega Minima proclamations. He received warm congratulations and blessings from Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and the Synod members, who wished him a successful and blessed tenure in the Church.
