Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Nicopolis and Preveza, along with Mayor Nikos Georgakos of Preveza, warmly welcomed Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew to the Holy Church of Saints Constantine and Helen. They expressed their gratitude on behalf of the city for his gracious acceptance of their invitation.
The Ecumenical Patriarch was honored by a military guard and the Merchant Marine Academy, with twelve Metropolitans representing the church at the reception. The event was attended by various dignitaries including MPs Spyros Kyriakis and Kostas Barkas, Deputy Regional Governor Stratos Ioannou, and Thematic Deputy Regional Governor Anastasios Drakos, as well as vice-mayors, councilors, and members of the community.
The welcoming ceremony, led by Mayor Nikos Georgakos, took place in the church courtyard. He spoke of the great honor of having the Ecumenical Patriarch visit Preveza after 25 years, praising his work and expressing the city’s appreciation.
In return, the Ecumenical Patriarch expressed his emotions about visiting Preveza, a place where he holds honorary citizenship. He highlighted the significant role of the church in shaping human character, intercultural relations, and history.
The visit included a doxology at the Holy Church of Saints Constantine and Helen, where Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Nicopolis and Preveza welcomed the Ecumenical Patriarch. He acknowledged the region’s rich religious history and lauded the Patriarch’s efforts in defending Orthodoxy, honoring him with the Metropolis’s highest award, the medal of Apostle Paul.
