This weekâs parsha discusses the encounter of Yaakov with his dangerous brother Eisav, highlighting the contemporary rise in antisemitic incidents globally. From leaflet distribution to synagogue arson, the proliferation of antisemitism evokes fear, particularly for Holocaust survivors’ descendants.
At a recent convention, Rabbi Feldman emphasized the inherent hatred Eisav’s descendants hold for Yaakov’s, explaining the lack of sympathy post-2023 events. Rabbi Reisman recalled an incident at Torah Vodaas yeshiva, stressing the need to elevate spirituality to counter Eisav’s terror.
Yaakov’s plea to be saved from Eisav in this weekâs parsha extends to Eisav’s son Achi, symbolizing the danger of assimilating sinful ways. The toxic influence of western civilization, promulgated through media, poses a more insidious threat than overt antisemitism.
As we differentiate ourselves from the values of an amoral society, safeguarding our families from decadence becomes imperative. Just as we remain vigilant against antisemitism, we must also protect against the erosion of moral values.
May our spiritual vigilance bring blessings of longevity, health, safety, and true Yiddishe nachas.
