On Thursday, December 26, 2024, a large number of faithful gathered at the historic and stunning cathedral in the city to participate in the liturgical ceremonies honoring the 25th anniversary of Archbishop and Metropolitan Nifon of Târgovişte’s enthronement.
The Divine Liturgy was presided over by His Eminence, accompanied by priests and deacons. Prof. Marian Vâlciu, Vice Rector of the “Valahia” University of Târgovişte, delivered a festive speech highlighting key aspects of Metropolitan Nifon’s ministry from academic, pastoral, missionary, and social perspectives.
Congratulatory messages were shared by various dignitaries, including Corneliu Ștefan, President of the Dâmbovița County Council, Cristian Stan, Mayor of Târgoviște, and representatives from theological schools and the clergy.
The second part of the anniversary celebrations took place at the “St. Voivode Neagoe Basarab” Hall of the Metropolitan Residence. Dr. Ionuț Adrian Ghibanu, Diocesan Vicar of the Archbishopric of Târgoviște, welcomed national and local officials, university representatives, military commanders, clergy, and more.
The event included the screening of a special film titled “His Eminence Archbishop and Metropolitan Nifon – a quarter of a century in Târgoviște, in the service of the Church and Romanian people,” followed by a carol concert by the Târgoviște Cathedral Choir.
Metropolitan Nifon awarded the eparchial ORDER “St. Hierarch Nifon, Patriarch of Constantinople and Metropolitan of Wallachia” and the Diocesan ORDER “Wallachian Cross” to distinguished laymen who have supported the Church’s pastoral mission.
Throughout his speeches at the Cathedral and the Archbishopric Residence, Metropolitan Nifon emphasized the importance of the Nativity of our Lord for human history and civilization, underlining its theological significance as the foundation of Christian life and the values of our modern world.
