The First Sunday of Lent, also known as the Sunday of Orthodoxy, was observed today with great solemnity and deep reverence at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens. The Divine Liturgy was celebrated by Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece, along with several Metropolitans.
Among the dignitaries present was the President of the Hellenic Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, highlighting the national and religious importance of the feast.
Metropolitan Dorotheos of Syros delivered the festal sermon, focusing on the significance of the Sunday of Orthodoxy as a day of faith triumph and Church unity.
This historic day commemorates the victory of the Orthodox Church over iconoclasm and the restoration of the veneration of holy icons, reaffirming the Orthodox faith’s resilience and spiritual legacy.
