On Sunday, 16 June 2024, Bishop Maximos of Melitene visited the church dedicated to the Holy and God-bearing Fathers of the First Ecumenical Council in Shrewsbury. He led the Matins service and conducted the Divine Liturgy.
During his sermon, Bishop Maximos conveyed best wishes from Archbishop Nikitas and honored Mr. Christopher David Lewis, a dedicated Reader and supporter of the English-speaking community in Shrewsbury. Mr. Lewis was awarded the Archdiocesan Cross Medal for his unwavering commitment and service.
Bishop Maximos praised Mr. Lewis, saying, “Your dedication to our community in Shrewsbury and the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Thyateira and Great Britain sets a remarkable example for all.”
The Orthodox Community of the 318 Fathers of the First Ecumenical Council in Shrewsbury has grown significantly over the past two years, actively participating in charitable activities across the Midlands region.
Following the Divine Liturgy, a reception was held for the congregation in the church courtyard.
