The memory of Holy Father Nicodemus the Hagiorite was celebrated with great splendor on Sunday, July 14, at the Holy Metropolis of Nigeria. In an atmosphere of devotion, Metropolitan Nicodemus of Nigeria honored the memory of his patron saint, whose name he bears, at the Cathedral of the Resurrection of the Lord in Lagos.
The Ambassador of Greece to Nigeria, Athanasios Kotsionis, accompanied by his wife, honored Metropolitan Nicodemus with his presence. On this occasion, the ambassador wished the Metropolitan success in his pastoral work and promised full support and assistance from both himself and the embassy in the work of the Holy Metropolis of Nigeria.
In his sermon, Metropolitan Nicodemus emphasized that God is the Light of the world and the life of people. He raised the concerns of the flock about whether the life we lead is truly Christian—distinguished by faith and love for God and man. He questioned if we are worthy of the Lord’s words addressed to each of us as members of the Church. Concluding, he conveyed the wishes of Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria to the faithful of the Holy Metropolis.
Many believers, both locals and expatriates, gathered to offer their wishes to their shepherd on the occasion of his name day.
