President Aleksandar Vučić of Serbia hosted a meeting on November 18, 2024, at his official residence in Belgrade with Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, Head of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate. The visit of the Russian Church delegation was made with the blessing of Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia.
Metropolitan Anthony conveyed greetings from Patriarch Kirill to the Serbian President, noting that the delegation’s visit coincided with the centennial celebrations of the Holy Trinity Church in Belgrade, the Moscow Patriarchate’s representation in Serbia.
President Vučić emphasized the importance of this milestone during their discussion, which was celebrated the day before with the presence of Serbian Patriarch Porfirije, hierarchs, and clergy from both the Russian and Serbian Orthodox Churches. He highlighted that the event symbolized the long-standing close relationship between the two nations and their Churches, reaffirming their joint commitment to preserving spiritual values and cultural heritage.
The meeting also touched upon other topics of mutual interest, emphasizing the deep historical and cultural connections between the Serbian and Russian peoples.
