Serbian Patriarch Porfirije had a meeting with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the State Secretary of the Holy See, at the Patriarchal Palace in Belgrade today.
Both sides had a conversation focused on Christian understanding and agreed that the centenary of the Archdiocese of Belgrade is a reflection of the positive relations between the Serbian Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic Church in Serbia. They also highlighted the importance of further cooperation between the two Churches at local and universal levels.
Patriarch Porfirije expressed thanks for the Holy See’s support regarding Kosovo and Metohija and informed Cardinal Parolin about the critical situation facing Serbs and the Christian heritage in that region. They also discussed potential ways to support peace and ensure the continued presence and mission of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Kosovo and Metohija, benefiting all residents in the area.
In addition, they talked about recent legislation in Ukraine that restricts the Ukrainian Orthodox Church under Metropolitan Onufriy, addressing the challenges and consequences of such a decision.
