On Sunday, November 24, Bishop Nektarije was officially enthroned as the first Metropolitan of London at the Serbian Orthodox Cathedral of Saint Sava in London. The ceremony, led by Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia, marked the establishment of the new Metropolitanate of London within the Serbian Orthodox Church. This Metropolitanate was created in May to cater to the spiritual needs of the Serbian diaspora in the region.
A Momentous Occasion
The enthronement ceremony was attended by hierarchs of the Serbian Orthodox Church, representatives from other Orthodox Churches, as well as officials from Serbia and the United Kingdom. Patriarch Porfirije encouraged Metropolitan Nektarije to approach his new role with humility and repentance, underscoring the spiritual gravity of his position. In his speech, Metropolitan Nektarije emphasized the significance of his ministry and the challenges of guiding the faithful in a diverse and multicultural society.
Royal and Ecumenical Well-Wishes
King Charles III extended his congratulations on the occasion, expressing optimism that the newly established Metropolitanate would strengthen the ties between the Churches and people of Serbia and England. His message underscored the event’s importance as a bridge between the two nations and a positive step in ecumenical relationships.
