The Patriarchate of Antioch recently hosted a seminar titled “Citizenship and Civil Society” at the Saint George Church hall in the Jimira district of Damascus. The event marked the first dialogue-based discussion organized by the Patriarchate on this topic.
The seminar delved into the concept of citizenship, exploring its historical background, significance, and relevance to the current situation in Syria. Participants also examined the Syrian people’s acceptance of citizenship and the government’s willingness to embrace this fundamental institution.
A key highlight of the seminar was the affirmation that Christians are integral members of Syrian society, fully integrated as citizens. Discussions also touched on political issues such as the Constitution, elections, and the importance of active engagement in public discourse and social and political life.
