In recent times, there has been a lot of discussion in Moldova regarding the lifestyle of a Bishop of the Moscow Patriarchate, attracting attention in local media. The Bishop of Bălți and Fălești, Marchel Mihăescu, is said to have a son from a previous relationship and to possess a significant amount of wealth.
As per a report by nordnews.md, Bishop Marchel allegedly had a clandestine affair with a woman, resulting in the birth of their son, Roman Tiskevich, on July 22, 1994. Raised by his adoptive father, Roman adopted his surname. Despite never publicly acknowledging his son, Bishop Marchel has purportedly always maintained a close relationship with Roman, often bringing him to religious services and supporting him through health challenges.
With Bishop Marchel’s support, Roman graduated from the Law School of Alecu Russo State University in Bălți and went on to work in the legal department of the Municipality of Bălți. Currently, he is employed as a customs inspector at Customs North. Although their relationship is not openly displayed, they have been spotted together at various religious gatherings. For example, on June 22, they were present at the celebration of Saint Agafia at the Cușelăuca monastery, where Roman assisted his father by carrying his vestments and other religious items.
The resemblance between Bishop Marchel and Roman Tiskevich is quite striking, as confirmed by comparing photos of Marchel from his youth, during his service in the Soviet army, with those of Roman. Furthermore, Bishop Marchel resides in a luxurious 316-square-meter house on Decebal Street in Bălți. This two-story building is registered in the name of Roman Tiskevich, as indicated by asset declarations over the past eight years. Reports from Moldovan media suggest that several properties have been listed under Roman’s name with the condition of lifelong care by Marchel.
The revelations about Bishop Marchel’s alleged secret life and substantial wealth have generated significant controversy in Moldova, prompting questions about his commitment to religious vows and financial integrity.
