Vegetation fires have affected over 13,000 hectares this month, leading many dioceses to collaborate with regional and county representatives of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations to raise awareness among the faithful.
Joint Appeal from Church and Firefighters
In various regions such as the Metropolis of Oltenia, Archdioceses of Suceava and Rădăuți, and Alba Iulia, churches have partnered with firefighters to urge people to avoid burning pastures and gardens.
Both Church representatives and emergency responders have warned that these practices can result in serious incidents or loss of life if fires get out of control.
A similar message has been shared in the Diocese of Caransebeș and is set to be disseminated in other eparchies soon.
National Call for Prayer and Awareness
The Romanian Patriarchate has called on clergy and believers to pray and show solidarity. Special prayers for protection from danger will be offered in all churches this Sunday, with an emphasis on educating communities about the risks of burning dry vegetation.
In Cluj County, the number of wildfires requiring firefighter intervention has risen by 29% compared to last year, according to Prefect Maria Forna as reported by Agerpres.
The most challenging firefighting operations have occurred in Alba, Bistrița-Năsăud, Caraș-Severin, Hunedoara, Mehedinți, and Vâlcea counties.
