It’s possible to describe the recent events in technical terms: Israeli singer-songwriter Ishay Ribo made history by performing at Madison Square Garden in New York. Both of his shows, which drew large crowds, were completely sold out.
However, on a spiritual level, these gatherings hold deeper significance. In the month of Elul, Jews in the Diaspora yearn for a connection to Israel. It’s a time for spiritual growth, clarity, Jewish pride, and unity. Ribo’s words at these events resonated with the audience, expressing faith in the redemptive power of the Jewish people’s struggles.
Reflecting on the Torah portion of Ki Teitze, which contains 74 mitzvot, we are reminded that fulfilling a mitzvah is not just following a commandment but also forging a connection with G-d. Through these actions, we bring holiness into our lives and the world.
As the year comes to a close, it is customary to take on a new mitzvah to deepen our connection to G-d and increase holiness in our lives.
