On Wednesday, August 21, 2024, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a phone conversation with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, who was visiting Imbros for the summer. President Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude to Patriarch Bartholomew for sending an official delegation to participate in Ukraine’s national Independence Day celebrations on August 24. He also thanked the Patriarch for the warm reception his representatives received during their recent visit to the Phanar.
In response, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew appreciated the President’s call and reiterated his hope for a swift resolution to the conflict in Ukraine. The Patriarch reaffirmed the Ecumenical Patriarchate’s strong support for the Ukrainian people during these challenging times.
The official delegation from the Ecumenical Patriarchate, composed of Metropolitans Hilarion of Winnipeg and Job of Pisidia, as well as Patriarchal Deacon Epiphanius Kamyanovich, has already arrived in Ukraine to take part in the upcoming Independence Day events.
