Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia and Patriarch Daniel of Bulgaria have offered their sincere condolences on the passing of Metropolitan Timothy of Debar, who peacefully passed away at the age of 74 on Monday, November 25.
In a letter to Archbishop Stefan of Ohrid, Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia expressed deep sadness at the loss of a hierarch who played a crucial role in reconciling the Serbian Orthodox Church with the Church of North Macedonia.
The Serbian Patriarch praised the late Metropolitan as a dedicated servant of the Church, whose collaborative efforts with clergy and laity contributed to healing the wounds of a longstanding schism.
“In Bishop Timothy, we found a brother in Christ with whom we shared a close bond,” wrote Patriarch Porfirije, concluding the letter with prayers for the eternal rest of Metropolitan Timothy’s soul.
Patriarch Daniel of Bulgaria also extended his condolences in a letter to Archbishop Stefan of Ohrid, commending Metropolitan Timothy’s significant contributions and his ties to the Bulgarian Orthodox Church.
“He will be remembered as an exceptional bishop and a valued friend of the Holy Bulgarian Orthodox Church,” said Patriarch Daniel, recalling Metropolitan Timothy’s involvement in the funeral of the late Patriarch Neophyte of Bulgaria earlier this year, as well as in his own election and enthronement.
The Bulgarian Patriarch emphasized the late Metropolitan’s piety and lifelong commitment to the mission of the Church of Christ.
He closed his message with solidarity towards the Archdiocese of Ohrid, expressing heartfelt condolences for the loss of their esteemed brother.
