The delegation of the Romanian Patriarchate invited for the enthronement of Bulgaria’s Patriarch Daniil also visited the Romanian Embassy in Sofia on Sunday.
The delegation, led by Metropolitan Nifon and Hierodeacon Nicolae Iftimiu, was warmly received by Brândușa Ioana Predescu, the Romanian Ambassador to Bulgaria.
Metropolitan Nifon expressed the importance of visiting the Romanian diplomatic representation during significant Orthodox Church events, emphasizing the unity and communion between the Autocephalous Orthodox Churches.
Brândușa Ioana Predescu highlighted the strong relationship between Romania and Bulgaria, further strengthened by Patriarch Daniel’s delegation at this historic moment for Bulgaria.
The Bulgarian Orthodox Church elected Patriarch Daniil as its new leader, succeeding the late Patriarch Neophyte. The enthronement ceremony was attended by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I and delegations from sister Orthodox Churches.
The Bulgarian Orthodox Church, which received autocephaly in 1945 and became a Patriarchate in 1951, has maintained a close relationship with the Romanian Orthodox Church over the years.
