On Wednesday, July 17, Father Varlaam Ploieșteanul, Patriarchal Auxiliary Bishop, welcomed Mrs. Enkeleda Merkuri, the new Ambassador of the Republic of Albania in Bucharest, during a visit at the Palace of the Patriarchate.
Father Varlaam Ploieșteanul warmly greeted Enkeleda Merkuri, emphasizing the enduring fraternal ties between the Romanian Orthodox Church and the Orthodox Church of Albania. He also highlighted the significant contributions of Archbishop Anastasios of Albania to the revival of Orthodoxy in Albania. Additionally, he noted the growing interest among Romanian Orthodox Christians in visiting and making pilgrimages to Albania’s historical and religious sites.
Mrs. Enkeleda Merkuri was grateful for the warm welcome and acknowledged the strong cultural and political relations between Romania and Albania. She also referred to the shared historical experiences of the two nations, particularly during the 20th century.
During the discussion, Mrs. Merkuri conveyed the Embassy’s readiness to organize various events and activities to promote a deeper understanding of Albanian Orthodoxy among Romanian believers.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Father Varlaam Ploieșteanul wished Ambassador Merkuri much success in her new diplomatic mission in Romania.
