The Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, during his visit to Sydney on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, paid a visit to the Saint Athanasios Cemetery in Rookwood. Here, he conducted a memorial service (trisagion) for the late Archbishops of Australia, Theophylactos and Stylianos, to honor their souls.
Accompanied by the current Archbishop Makarios, clergy, and a congregation of faithful followers, the Patriarch delivered a heartfelt address in response to the welcoming speech by Protopresbyter John Grillas, the cemetery’s chaplain.
In his speech, the Ecumenical Patriarch reflected on the life, work, and impact of Archbishop Stylianos on the Archdiocese of Australia, reminiscing about their time together as classmates in Halki. He also offered prayers for the peaceful repose of his soul.
