In his letter, Patriarch Porfirije expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives in the historic and renowned city of Cetinje, the seat of the Metropolitanate. He urged Metropolitan Joanikije to convey his prayers, condolences, and pastoral concern to the faithful and the families of the victims.
“The gift of life is of priceless value, as every human being is called into this world by the wisdom and love of God,” Patriarch Porfirije wrote, emphasizing the profound loss caused by this tragedy.
He also acknowledged the broader context of recent tragic events in the region, stating:
“This is one in a series of deeply troubling incidents that have occurred in our close and fraternal geographic area. In these pre-Christmas days, we are reminded that only a genuine return to Christian values and ways of life, exemplified by the ancient Lavra of St. Peter in Cetinje, can bring spiritual peace and discernment during personal and collective crises and trials.”
The Patriarch offered prayers for the repose of the innocent victims, asking Christ to console and strengthen the grieving families and to illuminate the souls of the departed with the light of His eternal Kingdom, granting them eternal rest.
