Patriarch Daniel of Romania sent a message to the 5th Congress of the Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Canada, which took place in Vancouver/Surrey on June 7-8. He emphasized the importance of the congress as a unique opportunity to discuss and propose ways to fulfill the Church’s mission.
The theme of the congress was “Witnessing Communion in Today’s Society,” with a focus on the care and assistance of the sick and the commemoration of the holy unmercenary healers. The Romanian Orthodox Church is dedicating the year 2024 to pastoral care for the sick, highlighting God’s love for humanity.
The message also highlighted the establishment of the Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Canada and the enthronement of Bishop Ioan Casian as its first hierarch in 2017. The Church continues its mission of proclaiming the Gospel and carrying out various activities to spread faith in Jesus Christ.
In a world facing conflicts and injustices, the Church’s message of hope and love is essential. The Church aims to be a beacon of light and healing in society, guiding and nurturing human life.
The message commended the Romanian Orthodox Church’s global missionary work and emphasized the importance of love and unity among believers. The congress attendees were encouraged to continue the legacy of their predecessors in building a strong Christian community in Canada.
Overall, the message conveyed the importance of the congress in discussing and planning for the Church’s mission in today’s society, emphasizing the need for unity, love, and faith in spreading the message of salvation. We encourage you to embrace the mission you have been called to with joy, responsibility, and humility.
We are delighted to appoint His Eminence Metropolitan Iosif of the Romanian Orthodox Metropolis of Western and Southern Europe to represent us at this Congress and convey our blessings and gratitude.
As a token of our love and gratitude, we gift you a fragment of the relics of Saint Callinicus of Cernica to inspire and strengthen you in your missionary work, symbolizing your unwavering connection to the mother Church.
We commend His Eminence Metropolitan Nicolae of the Romanian Orthodox Metropolis of the Americas, His Grace Bishop Ioan Casian of the Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Canada, and all the clergy for their dedicated pastoral and missionary efforts during these challenging times.
We extend our best wishes to all attendees of the diocesan Congress for good health, progress, and support in your missionary endeavors for the glory of God and the benefit of the Church and society.
With sincere respect and paternal blessings,
† DANIEL
Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church
