Patriarch Daniel of Romania welcomed the Ambassador of France to Romania, Nicolas Warnery, at the Patriarchal Residence on Thursday.
The Romanian Patriarch praised Nicolas Warnery’s extensive diplomatic background in his opening speech.
In return, the French Ambassador expressed gratitude for the warm reception and emphasized the ecumenical work of the Romanian Orthodox Church and Patriarch Daniel. He also acknowledged the efforts towards constructing the National Cathedral, as stated by the Department for Interchurch and Interfaith Relations of the Romanian Patriarchate.
The discussions during the meeting focused on the strong ties between France and Romania, particularly the significant number of young Romanians studying in French universities and the harmonious relationships between Romanian Orthodox communities and other Christian Churches in France.
Both parties expressed their hope for increased solidarity among European nations in the face of current geopolitical challenges, aiming to strengthen democracy and promote the common good, as mentioned in the communique.
Concluding the meeting, Patriarch Daniel extended his best wishes to Nicolas Warnery for his diplomatic mission.
Following the visit, Ambassador Nicolas Warnery shared insights with the Basilica Media Centre on the discussions with Patriarch Daniel.
“Today, I met with Patriarch Daniel to discuss topics such as the National Salvation Cathedral and the Church’s societal significance.
