Patriarch Theophilos of Jerusalem welcomed Mr. Diczházi Gábor, the representative of Hungary in Ramallah, on Monday, November 11, 2024.
During their meeting, Patriarch Theophilos discussed his visits to Hungary, the honors he received from Hungarian government officials, and the Patriarchate’s extensive pastoral and peacemaking efforts in the region. He expressed gratitude for Hungary’s financial support towards important restoration projects, such as the renovation of the Basilica of the Nativity in Bethlehem and the Edicule of the Holy Sepulchre in 2017.
The next day, on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, Patriarch Theophilos met with Mr. Dov Moskovič, who is leading the comprehensive structural project to promote the archaeological site of the “Seat”. This site includes the excavated ruins of the coenobitic monastery of the “Seat”, adjacent to the Holy Monastery of the Prophet Elijah. The monastery is believed to be the Monastery of the Pious Pilgrim Ikelia, where St. Theodosios the Cenobiarch sought seclusion, and where the Virgin Mary and Joseph rested on their way to Bethlehem.
Patriarch Theophilos praised Mr. Moskovich for his remarkable work and expressed optimism for the success of the project, anticipating an increase in pilgrims visiting the area.
