Patriarch Ilia II of Georgia has sent a warm congratulatory message to the newly elected Archbishop John of Tirana, Durres, and All Albania.
In his letter, the Georgian Patriarch conveyed his heartfelt congratulations on behalf of the Georgian Orthodox Church and himself, wishing Archbishop John strength and wisdom in carrying out the significant responsibility entrusted to him.
“May God bless you with good health, long life, spiritual fortitude, and wisdom to fulfill the important role assigned to you, so that you may continue the dedicated service of the late Archbishop Anastasios,” Patriarch Ilia wrote.
He also expressed optimism that under the leadership of the new Archbishop, the relationship between the Churches of Georgia and Albania would deepen. “We anticipate that during your tenure, the connection between our Churches will grow stronger, and that your pastoral work will be fruitful and bring spiritual joy not only to your congregation but to the entire Orthodox community,” he stressed.
The message concluded with a blessing: “May our Lord Jesus Christ and the Most Holy Theotokos guide and support you.”
Archbishop John’s election represents a significant moment for the Albanian Orthodox Church, as he succeeds the late Archbishop Anastasios, who played a pivotal role in the resurgence of Orthodoxy in Albania.
