In his first television interview on BNT’s Panorama, the newly appointed Bulgarian Patriarch Daniel emphasized the unwavering support of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church for its people, especially during difficult times, and its commitment to eternal truths.
Regarding the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Patriarch Daniel called for peace and dialogue. He emphasized the importance of philanthropy and unity, stating that stopping military actions and promoting dialogue is essential in any conflict.
Patriarch Daniel also highlighted the limitations of the state in addressing fundamental human issues and stressed the need for cooperation between state and church authorities. He emphasized the importance of dialogue and respecting diverse opinions, while also addressing the role of the government in maintaining law and order.
While acknowledging the importance of differing opinions, Patriarch Daniel expressed the necessity of human brotherhood, responsibility, and care for each other to bring about a sense of unity and righteousness among Bulgarians.
However, it is worth noting that Patriarch Daniel had different views before his election, particularly regarding the establishment of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. He criticized the uncanonical foundation of the church and its impact on the division within Ukraine.
