Patriarch John X of Antioch recently held a meeting with the Board of Directors of the Department of Ecumenical Relations and Development (DERD), the humanitarian arm of the Patriarchate, at the Patriarchal residence in Damascus. The meeting was attended by regional coordinators from various parts of Syria where DERD is actively involved.
During the meeting, the Patriarch stressed the importance of responding effectively to the changing circumstances in Syria. He emphasized the necessity of continuing support for all Syrians, regardless of their backgrounds, amidst increasing needs across the country. The Patriarch reaffirmed the Church’s enduring commitment to humanitarian work, highlighting its crucial role in the Syrian social structure.
Engagement with Orthodox Sunday School Councils
Later in the day, Patriarch John X met with the Central and Guidance Councils of the Damascus Orthodox Sunday Schools. The meeting, which took place at the Patriarchal residence, involved a productive discussion on the challenges facing the nation.
The Patriarch urged caution and wisdom in navigating the current situation, emphasizing the importance of informed and deliberate actions over fear. He underscored the significance of unity and solidarity in the reconstruction of the country and the strengthening of societal bonds, especially in the critical process of drafting a new constitution for Syria.
The day concluded with a prayer led by the Patriarch, invoking the King of Peace to bring much-needed peace to the entire world.
