An official doxology took place at the Cathedral of the Annunciation of the Theotokos in Sydney, Australia, to mark the arrival of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. He came to Australia to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia.
The Ecumenical Patriarch, visibly moved by his visit after almost 30 years, addressed the Greek Orthodox community at the Church. He emphasized the deep connection they have with their roots and expressed gratitude for their migration to Oceania, which showcases the ecumenical spirit of the Greek community.
He praised Archbishop Makarios of Australia for his dedication to promoting unity and ensuring a successful outcome for the community. The Patriarch was greeted warmly at the airport by Archbishop Makarios and many faithful followers.
The reception also included the Holy Synod, members of the Australian government, and representatives from both Greek and Australian media, highlighting the importance of the Patriarch’s visit to Australia.
