On Thursday, September 5, 2024, on the feast of the Apodosis of the Dormition of the Theotokos, after the blessing of Patriarch Theophilos of Jerusalem, Aleka Kyriakopoulou was tonsured a nun and was given the name Akylina, at the chapel of Saint Ignatios in the Monastery of the Shepherds in Beit Sahour.
Sister Akylina is a graduate of the Medical School of the University of Athens and serves at the Patriarchate as a teacher at the Patriarchal School of Zion, teaching the subjects of Biology and Chemistry.
The tonsure was held by her spiritual Father, the Hegoumen of the Monastery of the Shepherds, Archimandrite Ignatios, in the presence of the Abbess of the Monastery of Megali Panagia, Nun Melani, where the newly tonsured nun lives, her brother, Archimandrite Polykarpos, who serves as a Sacristan at the Basilica of the Nativity in Bethlehem and her mother Vasiliki.
After the tonsure, the new nun hosted a reception for those who honored her with their presence.
On Tuesday, September 10, 2024, Sister Akylina visited Patriarch Theophilos of Jerusalem to pay her respect and thank Him.
