The Synod of the Metropolis of Muntenia and Dobrudja convened on Monday at the Patriarchal Residence in Bucharest.
During the meeting, Patriarch Daniel of Romania shared the news that the founders of the Athonite Prodromou Skete, Venerable Nifon, and Nectarie, have been recommended for canonization by the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
One of the main topics of discussion was the approval of the liturgical texts related to the canonization proposal for Venerable Nectarie the Protopsaltes, which will be submitted to the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
Patriarch Daniel elaborated, saying, “Nectarie the Protopsaltes, also known as Nectarie the Wallachian, was a prominent Romanian Hesychast who resided on Mount Athos. He was highly revered by Romanians and monks of various nationalities, earning the nickname ‘the Nightingale of Holy Mount Athos’.”
The Patriarch further informed that the Liturgical Commission for Canonization of the Ecumenical Patriarchate had decided to proceed with the canonization of four Athonite fathers of Romanian descent, including Elders Dionisie Ignat, Petroniu Tănase, Nectarie the Protopsaltes, and Venerable Nifon, the founder of the Romanian Prodromu Skete on Mount Athos.
Patriarch Daniel also mentioned the completion of the silver shrine for the relics of Venerable Dionisie Ignat and the ongoing work on the shrine for Venerable Petroniu Tănase.
Additionally, the Metropolitan Synod deliberated on the liturgical texts dedicated to Venerable Nectarie the Protopsaltes, with discussions on those dedicated to Athonite Venerable Nifon the Prodromite scheduled for a later time.
