Metropolitan Epifaniy of Kyiv and All Ukraine met with Radosław Sikorski, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, on September 14, 2024, at the Metropolitan’s residence.
The discussions centered on the repercussions of the ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine, during which Russian forces have been responsible for the loss of civilian lives and the destruction of entire cities.
The Primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine expressed profound gratitude for Poland’s significant assistance to Ukraine, including military support, and for the shelter offered by the Polish people to Ukrainian refugees.
“We are now fighting for our European future, as well as for our spiritual freedom. And we must continue to fight and do everything in our power in our place to bring our victory and a just peace closer,” said Metropolitan Epifaniy.
The meeting also covered the religious, interfaith, and socio-political situation in Ukraine. Sikorski emphasized the importance of the Tomos of autocephaly granted to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, viewing it as a restoration of historical justice.
Furthermore, they discussed humanitarian issues related to the commemoration of the victims of the Volhynia tragedy.
The meeting concluded with an exchange of gifts between the two parties.
