Metropolitan Cleopas of Sweden and All Scandinavia visited Oslo on Saturday morning, June 1, 2024. His first meeting was with the Board of Directors of the Association of Parents and Guardians of the Greek School (TEG).
Members present at the meeting included representatives from the Ecclesiastical Council of the Metropolitan Church of the Annunciation of the Theotokos in Oslo, as well as the school representatives Dr. Nikolaos Gavriilidis, Dr. Elias Zilakos, and Mrs. Chara Markomanolaki.
The Archbishop was informed that the Greek School currently has 108 students, with an expected increase to 130 in the upcoming school year. The school, established officially in 1983, had a previous attempt in 1973 which lasted only six months. Students recently took Greek language exams across various European levels.
The Archbishop expressed the local Church’s support for the school, offering the facilities of the Metropolitan Church of Oslo for their use. He also extended an invitation for the students, teachers, and parents to visit the church for events and celebrations.
The meeting concluded with a commitment for closer cooperation between the School and Church, with plans to organize events of common interest. This was followed by a meeting of the parish’s Ecclesiastical Council, chaired by the Metropolitan, where they discussed parish progress and restoration plans for the church’s reception hall.
The following day, Sunday, June 2, the Metropolitan celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Metropolitan Church of Oslo, which was broadcast live on social media. He also presented his study to the Ecclesiastical Council, followed by hymns performed in various languages during the service.
A reception followed the Liturgy, and the Metropolitan performed Holy Sacraments before returning to Stockholm. His next visit to Oslo was scheduled for July 13 and 14.
