Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Mani has written a letter to the Ambassador of France expressing his strong dissatisfaction with the blasphemous representation of the “Last Supper” during the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris. He emphasized that such an act goes against European Christian culture.
Since Friday night, there has been a significant uproar over the scene depicting Leonardo da Vinci’s painting “The Last Supper” with a performance by drag queens and members of Drag Rag France. This controversial scene has garnered condemnation from millions worldwide, including Hierarchs from the Church of Greece and the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
Below is an excerpt from Metropolitan Chrysostomos’ letter:
Your Excellency, Ambassador,
As a former student of Sorbonne University and in the spirit of Greek-French friendship, I express my deep regret over the disrespectful incident during the Olympic Games opening ceremony in Paris. The blasphemous depiction of the “Last Supper” does not align with European Christian values.
I sincerely hope that such provocative and anti-religious displays will not occur in the future.
Best regards,
† Chrysostomos III of Mani
