During an official visit to Italy, Metropolitan Epifaniy of Kyiv, Primate of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Ukraine, led a prayer service for peace in Ukraine in Rome on December 14, 2024.
The service took place at the Church of Saint Theodore the Tyrian, under the Italian Metropolis of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. With the approval of Metropolitan Polycarp of Italy, Metropolitan Epifaniy offered prayers for Ukraine, the victory of truth, and the establishment of a just peace in the country.
Metropolitan Eustratius of Bila Tserkva, Bishop Ephraim of Vasylkiv, Ukraine’s Ambassador to the Vatican Andriy Yurash and his family, along with numerous clergy and pilgrims from Ukraine, joined Metropolitan Epifaniy in prayer.
Representatives from France, Poland, Portugal, and Bulgaria also attended the service, demonstrating international solidarity for Ukraine.
Following the service, Metropolitan Epifaniy delivered a heartfelt speech, stressing the importance of daily gratitude to God and the continual need for prayers for a just peace in Ukraine.
He emphasized that such peace would only come after the triumph of truth, goodness, and light over the darkness of Russian aggression. He expressed deep appreciation for those who support Ukraine and urged them to persist in their efforts, trusting in God’s guidance and strength.
