On July 12, 2024, Metropolitan Epifaniy of Kyiv and All Ukraine conducted a memorial service for the victims of the Russian missile attack on Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital.
The Primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine delivered a heartfelt message to the audience, condemning the heinous act.
“Our enemy has disregarded all moral boundaries. Attacking children’s hospitals serves no military purpose. Russia’s goal is clear: to instill fear, terrorize Ukrainians, and even target seriously ill children in an attempt to break our resolve, as they struggle to achieve success on the battlefield,” said Metropolitan Epifaniy.
He urged everyone to come together in unity to work towards a collective Ukrainian victory.
“Together, united, we are strong. I believe that we will soon come together to reopen the refurbished building. It is within our reach. Therefore, through our combined efforts, each of us will play a part in advancing our shared Ukrainian victory,” emphasized the Primate.
The memorial service saw the participation of Priest Oleksiy Okremov, Archpriest Oleksiy Kharytonov, Volodymyr Zhovnir, as well as doctors, Ukrainian defenders, and the faithful.
At the conclusion of the event, a Requiem for the Fallen was performed by the chamber orchestra of the Kyiv Classic Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Herman Makarenko.
