Archbishop Anastasios of Albania was laid to rest in a special crypt beneath the Cathedral of the Resurrection in Tirana, fulfilling his final wish. The revered hierarch passed away at the age of 95, and his Funeral Service was held today with great emotion, presided over by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.
Attendees included Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens, Orthodox primates, church delegations, a representative of the World Council of Churches, representatives of the Vatican, and leaders of Albania’s religious communities. Metropolitan Ioannis of Korçë, Locum Tenens of the Church of Albania, delivered a touching eulogy, praising Archbishop Anastasios’ humanitarian work and dedication to education.
Metropolitan Ioannis highlighted the Archbishop’s love and respect for all individuals, emphasizing his role in fostering dialogue and unity. He spoke of Archbishop Anastasios’ unwavering faith and his ability to inspire others through his steadfast belief in God.
Describing Archbishop Anastasios as a great spiritual shepherd, Metropolitan Ioannis honored his legacy of spiritual wisdom and knowledge. The Archbishop’s legacy will continue to guide and inspire the Church and its followers.
