Metropolitan Amfilochios of Kisamos and Selinos emphasized the importance of state support for both young and large families in order to prevent Greece from having to rely on importing cheap labor from countries with different cultures. These views were shared in an interview with orthodoxtimes.com.
Recently, Metropolitan Amfilochios participated in the visit of the German President to Kandano, where he discussed Germany’s historical responsibility towards Greece.
“We do not involve ourselves in political matters. During the German President’s visit to Kandano, we expressed the shared desire for justice regarding the events of World War II, particularly Germany’s actions in our country,” Metropolitan Amfilochios stated.
Regarding the European Union’s solidarity and unity, the Metropolitan highlighted the complexities of the ongoing discussions. He specifically addressed Greece’s expectations of solidarity during the Memoranda period and raised concerns about the impact of these agreements on the Greek population.
Metropolitan Amfilochios pointed out that one of the most significant consequences of the memoranda is the significant emigration of young people from Greece, leading to demographic challenges and concerns about the future sustainability of the nation.
He advocated for government policies that prioritize supporting the local population, encouraging the formation of new families, and providing assistance to larger families, rather than resorting to importing foreign workers from different cultural backgrounds.
Expressing skepticism about addressing demographic issues through indiscriminate immigration, the Metropolitan warned of potential disruptions to social cohesion and long-term consequences on the demographic balance of local communities.
He concluded by urging a thoughtful approach to addressing critical issues and emphasizing the need for serious reflection on potential solutions.
