The Church Assembly of the Orthodox Church of Finland has chosen Metropolitan Elia of Oulu as the new Archbishop of the Orthodox Church of Finland. The election took place at the main church of the Valamo Monastery on November 28.
Metropolitan Elia will be traveling to Constantinople on Friday, November 29, to participate in the celebrations for the Feast of St. Andrew the First-Called at the Ecumenical Patriarchate. The Holy Synod of the Patriarchate will meet on Sunday, December 1, to officially confirm the election. The Archbishop-elect will assume his duties immediately and return to Finland on Monday evening. He will be accompanied by Archdeacon Andreas Salminen and theological secretary Jelisei Heikkilä.
The enthronement of Archbishop Elia will take place at the Uspenski Cathedral during the Divine Liturgy on December 15, 2024, starting at 9:00 AM.
