In a recent ruling, a Swedish court ordered the Swedish labor union “Vision” to pay additional compensation to the Holy Metropolis of Sweden and All Scandinavia after withdrawing a lawsuit.
The case involved a former clergyman from the Church of Greece who was on loan to the Holy Metropolis of Sweden. After refusing to return to his original parish following the completion of his second term, he was removed from the priesthood and returned to lay status by the Church of Greece’s Synodical Court.
The former clergyman, a member of the Swedish labor union “Vision,” filed a lawsuit seeking financial compensation and reinstatement to his previous parish position. However, the union withdrew the lawsuit before trial, realizing it was baseless, leading to a legal victory for the Holy Metropolis.
The Swedish court later ruled in favor of the Holy Metropolis, directing the plaintiff to cover legal expenses, which the union “Vision” had to pay. Subsequently, the Holy Metropolis requested additional financial compensation, which was also granted by the court and paid by the union.
The Holy Metropolis expressed gratitude for the legal support received and highlighted that this judgment further cleared any false financial allegations against them. Previous audits by the Swedish Tax Agency and SST had already vindicated the Holy Metropolis.
