The Church honors Zacchaeus the Apostle, a former chief tax-collector in Jericho who became one of Jesus’s seventy disciples after publicly repenting.
Today, we also remember Hieromartyr Anastasius, Bishop of Antioch, along with Martyrs Acindinus, Antoninus, Victor, Caesar, and others. Additionally, we celebrate the lives of Venerable Saints Athanasius of Meteora († 1383), Ioasaph, and Theodore “Trichinas.”
St. Anastasius, Bishop of Antioch, embraced an ascetic life from a young age and later became Bishop of Antioch in the 6th century. Despite facing exile by Emperor Justin, he returned to his position and passed away in 599.
Saint Athanasius, born in Patras in 1305, founded the Monastery of Meteora. After encountering various ascetics, he settled in Stagoi, Kalambaka, where he established a monastery dedicated to the Transfiguration of Jesus Christ. He lived a devout life until his passing in 1383.
