The Orthodox Church is honoring Venerable Arsenios the Cappadocian today.
Venerable Arsenios was born in Pharasa, Cappadocia around 1840. After his parents passed away, he received a Christian upbringing.
At the age of 26, he joined the Monastery of the Holy Forerunner of Phlavianai in Caesarea, where he became a monk and adopted the name ‘Arsenios’ (his birth name was Theodoros).
He later served as a deacon in Pharasa, teaching Greek to children, and at the age of 30, he was ordained a presbyter and became an Archimandrite in Caesarea.
Saint Arsenios was known for his ability to heal the suffering of both Christians and Muslims. He lived a life of self-denial and protected his followers from external threats, including attempts to convert them to Islam or introduce heretical teachings.
Throughout his life, he had many spiritual experiences through his strong faith and prayer. He accurately predicted the population exchange between Greece and Turkey in 1924 and foresaw his own passing. Numerous miracles were attributed to him, both during his lifetime and after his death.
