The Orthodox Church honors the memory of Great-martyr Anastasia, known as the “Deliverer from Potions”, along with her teacher, Martyr Chrysogonus, and her three children who also became martyrs for their faith.
Saint Anastasia is highly esteemed in our Church, with poets like John of Damascus, Theodore Studitis, and Joseph the Hymnwriter composing hymns in her honor. She was called the Pharmacologist because her healing remedies touched both the physical and spiritual realms, bringing comfort and relief to those in need.
Born into a wealthy Roman family during the persecution of Christians under Diocletian, Saint Anastasia embraced Christianity at a young age. Despite pressure from her pagan husband, Publius, she remained steadfast in her faith, dedicating herself to spreading the word of God and caring for the less fortunate.
Her missionary work, unwavering faith during imprisonment, and ultimate martyrdom by burning inspired many to embrace Christianity. The relics of Saint Anastasia continue to bring healing and salvation to those in need.
Let us pray for the well-being and strength of all, seeking Saint Anastasia’s intercession for those suffering. Additionally, on the 13th anniversary of the passing of Archbishop Chrysostomos I of Cyprus, we honor his memory and pray for the repose of his soul. His legacy as a champion for the rights of the Greek Cypriot people lives on, serving as a reminder of the importance of honoring our ancestors.
