Today, the Church celebrates the feast of Saint Xenophon and his family – his wife Mary, and their sons Sts. Arcadius and John.
Saint Xenophon, a wealthy senator from Constantinople during the 6th century AD, supported monastic brotherhoods along with his wife. They were known for their modesty and instilled this virtue in their children as well. Their sons, Arcadius and John, received higher education in Beirut and later embarked on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land.
After surviving a shipwreck, the brothers sought refuge in Palestinian monasteries, where they embraced an ascetic lifestyle. When their parents eventually found them in Golgotha, the brothers had devoted their lives to serving the Lord and the less fortunate. They lived out their days as ascetics until their passing.
