Today, our Church commemorates the martyrdom of Saint Kalliopi.
Saint Kalliopi lived in the 3rd century AD during the reign of Emperor Decius. She was known for her beauty, spiritual gifts, and intellect. Despite numerous marriage proposals, she chose to dedicate her life to Jesus Christ, spreading His teachings, and caring for the sick and suffering.
During the persecution of Christians by Emperor Decius, Kalliopi was arrested and brought before a local ruler who tried to tempt her into idolatry. However, she remained steadfast in her faith and refused to renounce Christ. As a result, she endured torture and was ultimately martyred, receiving heavenly glory.
The history of the Church is filled with brave women like Saint Kalliopi who sacrificed their lives for their faith in Jesus Christ, serving as inspirations for future generations.
