Saint Justin, originally named Evangelos Popović, was born on March 25, 1894, in Vranje, Serbia. He had a deep passion for theology and philosophy, becoming a renowned theologian known for his profound understanding of Orthodox Christianity.
His belief that Orthodoxy is not just a subject of study but a way of life resonated in his teachings. He embraced monastic life in 1916, taking the name Justin in honor of the martyr and philosopher Justin.
Throughout his life, Saint Justin dedicated himself to the study and promotion of Greek Orthodox Tradition. He obtained his doctorate in Patristic Studies in Athens in 1926 and later influenced many spiritual leaders, including Metropolitan Amfilohije and Bishop Atanasije Jevtić.
Despite facing persecution and imprisonment during the German occupation and the Yugoslav regime, Saint Justin remained steadfast in his faith. He passed away on March 25, 1979, leaving behind a rich theological legacy cherished by Orthodox Christians worldwide.
His memory is celebrated on June 14, and he is remembered as a revered Father and Teacher of the Church.
