The Holy Martyr Platon, brother of the holy Martyr Antiochus the Physician (July 16), was born in Ancyra, Galatia. As a youth, he traveled through cities, preaching the Word of God to pagans with great eloquence and knowledge.
Arrested for his preaching, he stood trial before Governor Agrippinus. Despite offers of wealth, marriage, and threats of torture, Saint Platon remained steadfast in his faith. He was beaten, imprisoned, and finally beheaded for refusing to renounce Christ.
Saint Platon’s martyrdom took place in 266, during Agrippinus’ tenure as proconsul. He hailed from Ancyra in Galatia.
Apolytikion of Great Martyr Plato
Fourth Tone
Thy Martyrs, O Lord, in their courageous contest for Thee received as the prize the crowns of incorruption and life from Thee, our immortal God. For since they possessed Thy strength, they cast down the tyrants and wholly destroyed the demons’ strengthless presumption. O Christ God, by their prayers, save our souls, since Thou art merciful.
