Commemoration of the Holy Martyrs Gurias, Samonas, and Abibus
The Church honors the memory of the three Holy Martyrs and Confessors Gurias, Samonas, and Abibus.
Saints Gurias and Samonas bravely stood firm in their Christian faith during the time of Emperor Diocletian. Despite facing persecution and arrest by Antoninus, they remained steadfast and encouraged others to resist idol worship. Ultimately, they were martyred by beheading.
Saint Abibus, known for his wisdom and piety, served as a Deacon in Edessa during the reign of Emperor Licinius. His dedication to spreading the Gospel led to his arrest and subsequent sentencing to death by burning. Through his suffering, he attained the crown of martyrdom.
