The Church honors Hieromartyr Paphnutius of Jerusalem, Saint Theodore, and Martyrs Philippa, Dioscorus, Socrates, and Dionysius.
During the reign of the Empire of Diocletian (284-305 AD), Hieromartyr Paphnutius endured torture and imprisonment.
While in prison, he encountered 40 individuals who were detained for delaying payment of taxes in the public sector. He shared the teachings of the Holy Gospel with them. Upon discovering this, the prefect Arrian had them all burned alive, but Saint Paphnutius mysteriously vanished.
He later reappeared before Arrian, who then ordered his dismemberment. However, when Arrian returned to find him dead and dismembered, the Holy Spirit miraculously reunited his body parts, and Saint Paphnutius stood before him alive.
Through this miraculous display, a group of soldiers came to believe in Christ. Saint Paphnutius eventually met his end by crucifixion, following the example of the Crucified Jesus Christ.
